Pollen of middle Oligocene to early Miocene age from core sediments from the New Jersey Shallow Shelf (Atlantic Coastal Plain: IODP-Expedition 313, Site M0027A), was analyzed using light- and scanning electron microscopy, and a pollen-based bioclimatic analysis was performed. The microflora is dominated by Quercus pollen. Pollen ornamentations indicate that Quercus pollen most likely originated from species of sections Quercus, Lobatae, Quercus/Lobatae and aff. section Protobalanus. Eotrigonobalanus, an extinct Fagaceae lineage, was present in the coastal plain.
