OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of high-dose intermittent glucocorticoid IGC) use on fracture risk in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD]. DESIGN Population-based retrospective case-control study. METHODS We conducted this study using data from the Danish National Databases. Cases were subjects 2 45 years with COPD, who sustained an osteoporotic fracture during the study period (1996-2011). To each case, a control without a fracture was matched by gender and year of birth. Also oral glucocorticoid use was evaluated before the index date.
