This paper presents the tribological behaviour of aluminum 2124 alloy reinforced with 10 wt.% Al2O3 particles, produced by powder metallurgy (PM) method. A comparison is made between MMCs and its coated MMCs generated by anodic oxidation method under the similar condition. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation of the microstructure shows that dispersion of Al2O3 particles within Al2124 alloy is uniform for the larger particle-reinforced composite, but increased amount of agglomerations among particles is observed for the smaller particle-reinforced composite.
