THE ROLE-PLAYERS PERCEPTIONS TOWARDS ROLE PLAY ON TWITTER AS VOCABULARY ENHANCER

With the strong influence of social media on life today, it is genuinely possible for us to use this opportunity to add knowledge, especially our English vocabulary, wherever and whenever with ease. In this study, the researcher will focus on one of the social media that is very popular and widely used by people, namely Twitter, and an exciting activity that can be done there, which is role play. Role-play is an activity that anyone can play by impersonating other people, such as celebrities, actors/actresses, idols, models, and others. Furthermore, this study was conducted to discover how role-players perceive role play on Twitter in enhancing vocabulary. The researcher wanted to find out how the opinion of the role-players with their experience so far—living in the roleplay world whether it helped them increase their English vocabulary. Therefore, the research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The data were measured from three indicators of perception: attitude, motive, interest, experience, and expectation, using two research instruments: a closed-ended questionnaire with a Likert scale type and interviews. Somehow, the role-players, as the respondents, gave a positive thought to this research. They agree that while they are in their life as role-players, they learn a lot of new things, especially their English vocabulary, which has improved. Many of them just realized it after this research has made, and they participated. Things like interacting with mutual, agency, or squad events, character updates, and menfess on auto-base are the most common factors for them to find unfamiliar English vocabulary. Because of the joy they had in all the activities there and how much they felt entertained by role-play, they did not realize that this fun thing could be a learning activity while playing
