PROSES ADAPTASI KOMUNIKASI DALAM PERSPEKTIF LARRY A. SAMOVAR (Studi pada Anggota Himpunan Mahasiswa Tanah Bumbu)

This research was motivated by the increasing number of Tanah Bumbu students who continued their education in Malang. The existence of cultural differences between Tanah Bumbu and Malang culture, caused some Tanah Bumbu students to experience cultural shocks, ranging from language differences, to habits in doing various things. So they need to adapt because of these cultural differences. This study was conducted by following the cultural concussion phase described by Larry A. Samovar with the shape of the U-Curve, namely (1) the honeymoon phase, (2) the frustration phase, (3) the recovery phase, (4) the resolutions phase. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach, with a descriptive type of research. The research data was obtained by interviews, documentation and this research using Miles and Huberman's data analysis techniques. From the objectives of the researcher all subjects experienced the process of adaptation of intercultural communication starting from the honeymoon phase, the frustration phase, the recovery phase and the resolutions phase. The changes that have occurred in all five subjects correspond to the perspective presented by Larry A. Samovar, the student of Tanah Bumbu has gone through the phases that a person will go through when adapting in a new environment. The results obtained from the five subjects are that they have been able or successful in solving the problems that occur so as to produce cultural acculturation. In addition to the experience that the subject got when interacting in the city of Malang, the ability of Tanah Bumbu students in managing the effectiveness of intercultural communication
