THE STUDENTS' PERCEPTION OF SONG ON UNDERSTANDING OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE

The purpose of this study is to ascertain students' perceptions of the effect of songs on their understanding of figurative language at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang's English Language Education Department. The researcher conducted qualitative research by distributing E-questionnaires to 38 currently enrolled students and four students who participated in the interview sessions. The findings of this data analysis indicate that the majority of students have a favorable attitude toward the effect of songs as significant media in assisting them in comprehending the meanings of figurative language and increasing their motivation to learn English. It is hoped that English lecturers will incorporate songs into their teaching of figurative language in order to pique students' interest in analyzing figurative language using authentic materials
