The efficiency test standard FprEN 17166 "Fans – Procedures and methods to determine the energy efficiency for the electric input power range of 125 W to 500 kW" was developed at the request of the European Commission. It was requested to support regulation 327/2011 ecodesign requirements for fans driven by motors with electric input power between 125 W and 500 kW. In drafting the standard, technical experts of the technical committee CEN TC156 WG17 took the opportunity to create new terms and definitions to clarify issues that occurred with the publication of the regulation.
