La production céramique médiévale de Sijilmassa (d'après les collections du Moroccan-American Project at Sijilmasa) : 2 -réflexions exploratoires et ébauche typologique

International audienceAs part of a PhD research in archaeology dedicated to Sijilmasa (2016), the ceramic material of this site – which, to date, is largely missing from publications about the most famous caravan city of Morocco – has been re-investigated. Based on this doctoral research, this paper does not pretend to be an exhaustive analysis of the medieval ceramics of Sijilmasa. It is divided into two parts: the first one is a global assessment of the published and unpublished work carried out on this topic, especially by the Moroccan-American Project at Sijilmasa (MAPS) between 1988 and 1998; the second one then consists of an exploratory analysis and of a first typology outline of this material which has been hitherto underestimated. The aim of this paper is to underline the relevance of historical, chronolo-gical and technological information that would be provided by an exhaustive study of this collection carried out by a specialist of ceramicsA l'occasion d'une thèse de doctorat en archéologie consacrée à Sijilmassa (2016), le mobilier céramique de ce site, grand absent des publications à ce jour livrées sur la plus célèbre des cités caravanières du Maroc, a fait l'objet d'une reprise d'étude. Le présent article, tiré de cette recherche doctorale, loin d'être une analyse céramologique exhaustive du mobilier médiéval de Sijilmassa, se développe en deux parties : la première est une réflexion critique sur les travaux, publiés ou non, déjà menés sur ce sujet et tout particulièrement ceux entrepris, entre 1988 et 1998 par le Moroccan-American Project at Sijilmasa (MAPS) ; la seconde partie propose ensuite des pistes exploratoires d'analyse et une première ébauche de typologie de ce mobilier, jusqu'alors sous-estimé, afin de démontrer la pertinence des informations, tant historiques, chronologiques que technologiques, que son étude complète, menée par un céramologue spécialiste, pourrait apporter
