Les archives et l’histoire du Parti communiste italien : bilan et perspectives de la recherche

International audienceIn the 1960s the Italian Communist Party (PCI) recovered a copy of its records for the period 1921-1943, kept in the Moscow archives of Comintern, and it passed them on to the Gramsci Institute, where researchers were granted partial access to them. There resulted a growth in historiography, founded on scientific criteria. In the 1990s, the PDS (the reformed PCI), passed on the documents for the post-war period to the Gramsci Foundation (as the Gramsci Institute is now known). Thus the complete archives of the PCI (1921-1991) have been gathered into a single location, open to researchers under the same conditions as other Italian public archives. This article outlines recent research done on the history of Italian Communism.Dans les années 1960 le Parti communiste italien récupéra et confia à l’Institut Gramsci une copie de ses archives, conservées à Moscou dans les archives du Komintern, pour la période 1921-1943, en permettant aux chercheurs d’accéder partiellement à ces sources. Cela permit à l’essor d’une historiographie fondée sur des critères scientifiques. Dans les années 1990 le PDS, héritier du PCI, confia à la Fondation Gramsci (héritière de l’Institut Gramsci) les documents concernant la période d’après-guerre. Ainsi les archives complètes du PCI (1921-1991) sont désormais réunies dans un seul endroit et ouvertes aux chercheurs dans les mêmes conditions que les archives publiques italiennes.
