<i>Rhipsalis pilocarpa</i>. A rare and localised Brazilian endemic

Rhipsalis pilocarpa is unique within its genus of epiphytic cacti in having dark red to crimson bristly fruits which are soft berries and readily dispersed by birds. This feature accounts for its classification in Rhipsalis subgenus Erythrorhipsalis. The species is endemic to Brazil where its very localised distribution is centred on the S.E. states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, where it is recorded from only 8 localities throughout its entire range.
