A simplified method is proposed to treat the dynamic response of buried structures to elastic waves. The soil-structure interface is discretised into finite strips resulting in an analysis which involves only plane waves. Both the anti-plane strain and plane strain models subjected to SH and P waves respectively are considered. Numerical examples are presented to both validate and illustrate the method.</p
