AI Early Detection of Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia that affects a person\u27s memory and quality of life as their brain deteriorates. This disease can present itself with frequent memory loss, displacing oneself in unknown location, and often physical reduction of the brain. Alzheimer’s is estimated to affect 5.8 million people in the United States with no cure, strictly preventative recommendations. Early detection of Alzheimer’s provides patients with the opportunity to take preventative measures and plan for the future. The project builds on previous student work using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data. The primary database used for MRI images was from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). The project used Python to construct the convolutional neural network and utilized five-fold cross validation for training the neural network for Alzheimer’s recognition
