Salud mental en la vejez: bienestar y autopercepción de salud en adultos mayores de Buenos Aires.

The objective of this study was to know the level of well-being, the route of access to well-being, the state of mental health and the self-perception of health that prevailed in older adults in Buenos Aires. Additionally, the relationships between the study variables were examined and the model that best predicted the self-perception of health in old age was investigated. The sample consisted of 634 subjects of both sexes between 65 and 100 years of age (M= 77,29, SD= 7,93), who completed an ad-hoc socio-demographic questionnaire; the Mental Health Continuum- Short Form; the Scale of three routes of access to well-being and evaluated their self-perception of health. The results showed that psychological well-being, the flourishing mental health status, the route of access to well-being compromised life and positive self-perception of health predominated in the participants. Moreover, correlations between all the study variables were presented and it was found that the Mental Health Continuum predicted better, by a minimal difference compared to the Theory of authentic happiness, the variance of the self-perception of health in old age. In conclusion, this was the first international scientific study that analyzed and compared two contemporary models of well-being, which had never been addressed together. Thus, this study allows to make more flexible a new way of rethinking this stage of the life cycle.El objetivo de este estudio fue conocer el nivel de bienestar, la ruta de acceso a éste, el estado de salud mental y la autopercepción de salud que predominaba en adultos mayores de Buenos Aires. Adicionalmente, se examinaron las relaciones entre las variables de estudio y se indagó en el modelo que mejor predecía la autopercepción de salud en la vejez. La muestra estuvo conformada por 634 sujetos de ambos sexos de entre 65 y 100 años (M=77,29, DE= 7,93), quienes completaron un cuestionario sociodemográfico ad-hoc; el Mental Health Continuum- Short Form; la Escala de tres rutas de acceso al bienestar y evaluaron su Autopercepción de salud. Los resultados evidenciaron que en los participantes predominó el bienestar psicológico, el estado de salud mental floreciente, la ruta de acceso al bienestar vida comprometida y la autopercepción de salud positiva. Además, se presentaron correlaciones entre todas las variables de estudio y se encontró que el Modelo de dos continuos de salud mental predijo mejor, por una mínima diferencia en comparación con la Teoría de la auténtica felicidad, la varianza de la autopercepción de salud en la vejez. Concluyendo, éste fue el primer estudio a nivel internacional que analizó y comparó dos modelos contemporáneos del bienestar, los cuales nunca habían sido abordados en conjunto. De esta manera, este estudio permite flexibilizar una nueva forma de repensar esta etapa del ciclo vital
