Rapid conversion to digital teaching enables continuing teaching at higher education institutions (HEIs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, teachers encountered barriers regarding digital higher education teaching. This paper systematically approaches this issue from two perspectives by combining an international literature review and qualitative research at a German HEI. Teachers’ barriers to digital teaching in higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic are identified and categorized. The identified categories from the literature review and qualitative survey are then described and compared.
