Objectives: Aortic valve replacement (AVR) potentially can modify pulse-wave propagation to the distal aorta. Echo-derived global circumferential strain (GCS) was used to test whether AVR for aortic stenosis (AS) or aortic insufficiency (AI) resulted in differential aortic biomechanics in the descending thoracic aorta. Design: This was a prospective observational study of patients who underwent cardiac surgery between 2016 and 2019. Setting: Weill Cornell Medicine, a single large academic medical center.
