The contribution aims to reflect on how the future EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) will promote the conservation and use of genetic diversity and local and traditional agricultural varieties. To do so, it will first set the definition of agrobiodiversity and genetic resources for food and agriculture (GRFA), then it will give an overview of the international and European legal framework governing GRFA. The central part of the article will an- alyse, in the light of the regulatory framework set before, how the current CAP 2014-2020 has addressed the topic, and with what results, then compare it with the proposals for the new CAP 2020-2027.
