International audienceThe illustration of the printed press in the XIXth century knew several stages between its beginning in publications about educational or encyclopaedic aim, in the 1830s, and its regular diffusion in the supplements illustrated with the daily press in the 1890s. This article tells these various stages before making a more precise analysis of the shape and the contents of the Supplement Illustré with the Petit Journal during the year 1892.
