In most of the research about the public sphere, its territorial dimension is either obvious or not included. This text analyses this territorial dimension as one element among others in the historic evolutions of the public sphere. It underlines how the relationship between the media and the territorial dimension of the public sphere is involved into its construction. The public sphere is indeed often characterized by its local side even though it was excluded from most of its theories. This is especially clear about the way traditional media promotes or hides local public debates.
