International audienceDuring the Second World War thousands of French people crossed the Pyrenaean border into Spain. The escapees from France wanted to flee the German occupation and Vichy to join France at arms in North Africa or in England. The crossing was difficult, the internment in Spain hard to bear, the wait for repatriation of variable duration. The human, political and diplomatic consequences of this voluntary exile resulted in these escapes becoming one of the major episodes in the history of the war. After the Liberation, a smaller number of French people found refuge in Spain to escape from the purge. But their story is not early as well- known.Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, des milliers de Français franchissent la frontière des Pyrénées et passent en Espagne. Les évadés de France fuient l’occupation allemande et Vichy afin de rejoindre la France combattante en Afrique du Nord ou en Angleterre. Le passage est difficile, l’internement en Espagne pénible, l’attente du rapatriement plus ou moins longue. Les conséquences humaines, politiques et diplomatiques de cet exil volontaire font de ces évasions un épisode important de l’histoire de la guerre. Après la Libération, un nombre plus réduit de Français trouvent refuge en Espagne pour échapper à l’épuration. Mais leur histoire est beaucoup moins bien connue
