The Inventory Routing Problem (IRP) is the integration of two supply chain subproblems: inventory management and transportation. A challenge common to all supply chain operations is dealing with uncertainty; this also applies to the IRP. The most common approaches to take into account uncertainties in the literature are “a priori” approaches. “A priori” approaches proactively manage uncertainties by establishing robust replenishment plans, which will be achievable even in the face of a wide range of events. In this thesis we tackle two major sources of uncertainty in the IRP context: customer demand and travel times.
