Between knowing and informing: the social career of the HIV tests in two epidemiological surveys in France and in the United-StatesEmbedded like epidemiologic instrument of evaluation of the HIV epidemic in surveys with primarily statistical aiming (EANR), the ELISA/HIV tests were widely diffused in France and in the United States. The concern caused by the extension of the epidemic apart from the first « risk groups » generated a keen demand of expertise for the public management of the collective risks related to the epidemic. The development of derogatory modes allowed the conduct of EANR on the newborns (the United States) and the pregnant women (France).
