International audienceOur presentation concerns the simulation of light propagation, with applications to computer graphics (for rendering images) and to visible light communications (VLC, with LiFi in minds). We will present the rendering equation, involving the BRDF (characterizing the materials) and show the link with the visibility problem. We then propose two different applications. The first is about visibility between polygons in 3d, which was an open problem until some years ago. The second concerns the resolution of the rendering equation, which can be done using either Monte Carlo or Metropolis methods
