International audiencebeta-Thalassemia and pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) are distinct genetic disorders. Yet, a dystrophic mineralization phenotype similar to PXE has frequently been associated with beta-thalassemia or sickle cell anemia patients of Mediterranean descent.
