International audienceBACKGROUND: Besides their effects on atherogenesis, lipids and lipoproteins could contribute to the development of venous thromboembolism (VTE). This association has been investigated in a few studies with conflicting results. METHODS: Plasma levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, apolipoprotein A-I and apolipoprotein B were measured in 467 patients with a first unprovoked VTE event diagnosed between May 2000 and December 2004 and in 467 age and sex matched controls.
