Resemantización del ritual de la muerte desde las crónicas hasta el testimonio quechua contemporáneo

The descriptions of death made by Guaman Poma, Cieza and Garcilazo de la Vega present common characteristics, such as the embalming of the body, the family gathering at the wake, the remembrance of the deceased’s deeds with mournful songs and the burial with all his belongings. Of all those described, some have lost relevance, such as the respect and care for the body. For this reason, in the testimonies reviewed, the little importance that now acquires the body of the deceased is pointed out with this phrase: “his corpse will be returned”. Others have resemanticized, for example, the objects that the dead person must have to pass to the next life. Now they buy him a suit and tie. They have to wear slippers because these will allow him to run faster to glory. Traditional elements such as songs, food, weeping, family and the importance of the rites to be performed to the body of the deceased lost relevance; however, this has not meant a loss of symbolism or an assimilation of a more westernized vision of what death is, which is why this imaginary still survives in the Quechua testimony and in the symbolism conveyed by some animals that appear in the stories of oral tradition.Las descripciones sobre la muerte que realizan Guamán Poma, Cieza y Garcilazo de la Vega presentan características comunes, como el embalsamamiento del cuerpo, la reunión de la familia en el velorio, la rememoración de las hazañas del difunto con cantos en tono lastimero y el entierro con todas sus pertenencias. De todos los descritos, algunos han perdido relevancia, como el respeto y cuidado del cuerpo. Por eso, en los testimonios revisados, se señala la poca importancia que ahora adquiere el cuerpo del difunto con esta frase: «su cadáver estará votado». Otros se han resemantizado, por ejemplo, los objetos que debe tener el muerto para pasar a la otra vida. Ahora le compran un terno y una corbata. Tienen que usar zapatillas porque ellas le permitirán correr más rápido a la gloria. Los elementos tradicionales como los cantos, la comida, el llanto, la familia y la importancia de los ritos que debían hacer al cuerpo del difunto perdieron relevancia; sin embargo, no ha significado una pérdida del simbolismo o una asimilación de una visión más occidentalizada de lo que es la muerte, por ello este imaginario aún pervive en el testimonio quechua y en el simbolismo que portan algunos animales que aparecen en los relatos de tradición oral
