The production, preparation, distribution and consumption of food holds a central position in the development of societies. Food is a primary necessity for human survival. Apart from its physiological importance, food is also a cultural phenomenon. As the French epicure Jean-Anthelme Brillant-Savarin claims, "Gastronomy governs the whole life of man."
