In this thesis, I will discuss the receptive field properties of visually responsive cells in the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) of a New World monkey, the marmoset Callithrix jacchus. The structure of the marmoset LGN enables an examination of receptive field properties of cells of the recently described third retinogeniculate pathway, the koniocellular (KC) pathway. Marmosets show an X—linked cone polymorphism which means that all males and some females are dichromats with the remaining females being trichromats
