The objective of this thesis was to examine the possible benefits and disadvantages of applying anatomical knowledge to the rigging of 3D creature characters. The hypothesis was that by examining real-life muscoskeletal structures of various species of animals and translating them into biomechanical concepts, it would be possible to build an accurate and functional rig for a fantastical creature with speculative anatomical features. Research methods included studying of relevant existing rigging resources such as literature and tutorials created by industry professionals, as well as evaluation of available 3D creature rigs with animalistic or atypical features.
