The impact of the new EU emissions trade draft on wintertime shipping : Finnish companies, waterway logistics

This study focuses on solving what it would mean to Finnish waterway logistics companies, if wintertime shipping would not be taken into account in the new EU emissions trade draft. The study will introduce the reader the world of logistics, by presenting the different transportation methods. The main focus of the study is to look at the importance of waterway logistics to Finland. It will be introduced why it is important compared to the other transportation methods. The emissions trade will be introduced in general so that the reader will get a clear picture about it. The theory part will explain what the new EU emissions trade is all about, and why the wintertime shipping should be taken into account. The empirical part will focus on looking at the study topic from the companies’ perspectives. In the empirical part there has been interviewed company representatives from different companies operating in the field of waterway logistics.
