When we are gone : När vi inte längre finns

In the photographic project “When we are gone”, I have invited nature into the creative process. A personal reflection describes the background of my interest in images, my sources of inspiration and specifically my engagement regarding the main theme of the project – man’s traces in nature. The beginning of the project and the decisions taken along the way are described, as well as how the project has evolved from initially a being a study of the art of photography to its present form with an intention to invoke thoughts concerning man’s impact on the environment. In the visual part, I present photographs co-created by me and the subjects in nature. The creative process includes returning the exposed and developed negatives to the location where they were photographed, where they are then exposed to the forces of nature for a period of three months. The following analysis relates the work to the history of art and photography, with a particular focus on previous photographic movements and contemporary fine art photography. Particular emphasis is given to thoughts and philosophies regarding the photograph as art, how chance contributes to the expression and, finally, the photograph as evidence of the subject “that-has-been”, which in my work develops into something that will become.I det fotografiska projektet ”När vi inte längre finns” har jag bjudit in naturen i skapandeprocessen. En personlig reflektion beskriver bakgrunden till mitt bildintresse, mina inspirationskällor och specifikt mitt engagemang för examensarbetets huvudtema – människans avtryck i naturen. Vidare redogörs hur projektet vuxit fram, vilka beslut som fattats under vägen och hur projektet breddats från att initialt varit en studie av fotografiets väsen till dess nuvarande form med syfte att väcka tankar om människans påverkan på natur och miljö. I den visuella delen ingår fotografier som jag tillsammans med subjekten i naturen skapat genom att exponerade och framkallade negativ återförts till platsen där de togs och där utsatts för platsens miljö under tre månader. Den efterföljande analysen sätter arbetet i relation till konst- och fotohistorien framförallt med referens till tidigare fotografiska strömningar och samtida konstfotografi. Särskild vikt läggs på tankar och filosofier om fotografiet som konstart, hur slumpen bidrar till uttrycket och fotografiets bevis på det som varit, i mitt arbete utvecklat till något som också kan komma att ske
