Saving women and girls? : evaluating humanitarian policies in Zaatari refugee camp and their success at closing the gender equality gap

Supervisor: Professor Lorenzo Piccoli, European University InstituteThis thesis will be divided as follows: Firstly, a literature review will introduce the topic of gender in the development context, and discuss discourses portraying women as vulnerable beings and their effects, as well as how these reflect in humanitarian policies implemented in Zaatari and mental health policies more specifically. Secondly, Zaatari camp will be introduced as the case study of this research, followed by a description of the methodological data used for this analysis. Then, the findings will be described and discussed. Finally, and before concluding, this thesis will include an analysis of the potential implications of the results, including debates on the notions of structures and agency in humanitarian aid, as well as the implications on men such mental health policy implementations could have
