Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze whether the current platform elements can handle the additional loads from the introduction of platform screen doors at various subway stations. The specific stations involved in the study were Norsborg, Alby, Fridhemsplan, Globen and Alvik. Method: By introducing the platform screen doors, the number of potential accidents is minimized, and the safety of passengers is increased. In order to see if the platforms would be capable of handling the extra load from the platform doors, engineers have measured the thickness of the current platforms to see whether they would be able to withstand the additional pressure that comes with the installation of platform screen doors.
