Images d'un réseau en évolution : les routes de poste dans la France préindustrielle (XVIIe siècle-début XIXe siècle)

By using a GIS to reconstitute the network at various dates, this paper analyses the pace of its extension in space and highlights differences in coverage by the postal service over the national territory. The contrast is particularly sharp between the northern and southern halves of the country, despite the unifying aim of the French Revolution.L'ensemble des itinéraires empruntés par la poste aux chevaux dans la France de l'Ancien Régime offre un terrain particulièrement utile à qui s'intéresse aux évolutions d'un réseau dans la longue durée. La reconstitution de la forme de ce réseau à différentes dates, à l'aide d'un SIG, permet d'analyser le rythme de son extension spatiale et révèle la force des contrastes d'équipement du territoire national. Les dénivellations opposent notamment la moitié nord et la moitié sud du pays, et cela malgré l'objectif unificateur de la Révolution Française
