This thesis analyses determinants of women labour supply taking account of the quality of work and family life balance and the quality of jobs, beyond the financial determinants. A theoretical and empirical survey of labour supply models shows that these microeconomic models neglect the intrinsic value of work. These analyses reduce the determinants of labour supply to financial considerations and lose sight of the influence of the nature of work and behaviour in two ways. On the one hand, an analysis of the influence of the social, economic and family environment on the labour supply decisions takes account of the nature of the institutions concerning the relationship between employment and family.
