International audienceDiscovered in 1996 on the coast of Hadramawt (Yemen) Sharma was a very peculiar harbour, a fortified transit entrepôt founded around 980 on the southern coast of Arabia by Gulf traders at the crossroads of their maritime networks, one of the main ports of the Indian Ocean in the 11-12th c. before it was suddenly abandoned around 1150.
