International audienceIn Benin, a transfer of representation of vodou is taking place between natural elements (essentially trees and forests) and a more and more monumental built and decorated heritage. This transfer joins in a context of strong demographic pressure on the environment provoking the tree cutting and the clearing of sacred groves (increasing needs of wood fire and in land). Since the democratic transition of the 1990s, the appreciation of the traditional religions and the vodou in particular allowed the reinvestment of number of places of worship the reactivation of which facilitates the architectural and artistic development.
