Babesia rossi is highly pathogenic and reacting dogs requires treatment to prevent mortalities. Mild, uncomplicated forms of the disease are effectively treated with antibabesial drugs. Complicated forms of the disease are difficult to treat with high mortality rate.This results in the disease being of economic importance in South Africa.
