The article focuses on a reconstruction of the environmental evolution of the archaeological sites of Xanthos and Letoon in Turkey. During the Hellenistic period, Xanthos was an ancient Lycian city situated on a rocky promontory on the left side of the Xanthe River. It notes Letton's continued struggle against gradual sinking under the alluvial deposits. It also notes the important role of the end plain in the development of the sites and its current appearance from an environmental context
