A GRAMMATICAL ANALYSIS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN VERNACULAR ENGLISH IN JUST MERCY MOVIE

African American Vernacular English (AAVE) was group of dialects of English that developed among African American communities especially in Northern America. AAVE as a social dialect includes distinctive grammatical features in comparison to American English. In this research, the writer analyzed the features grammatical of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) in Just Mercy movie. The aim of this research were to know what extent the distinction of grammatical features of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) that appear in Just Mercy (2019) movie from American English form, co-written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. The data of this research based on dialogues from Just Mercy movie. The writer used qualitative approach and described all about the findings. The writer used Wolfram theory (2015) that divided the grammatical of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) into four features; verb phrase, negation, nominal, and Wh- question. This research also contained about the grammatical features of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) in American English form. The writer found about the use of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) was not only spoken by black people, however sometimes white people also used grammatical features of African American Vernacular English (AAVE). The conclusion of this research was the grammatical of African American Vernacular English AAVE features that appeared in Just Mercy movie was different comparison American English form
