Solar Sails have been studied thoroughly in the last two decades. Advances in microelectronics, carbon fiber booms and thin film development/manufacturing have lead to the potential of making a solar sail mission possible in the near future. Solar sails are difficult to control due to their large inertias and the lack of mass and volume on the sailcraft.
