In this chapter, we begin by outlining different types of assessment, concentrating in the world of work. Next, we consider the results of a survey investigating the current usage of different assessment instruments in a coaching context. We then discuss the circumstances when assessment instruments should (or should not) be used. Following this, we outline how to use different assessments within the coaching process and, finally, future trends are considered. We illustrate our argument with figures and text boxes with examples or case studies to provide impetus for self-reflection to our readers
