Traditional Autoradiography is an imaging modality used in life sciences where thin ex-vivo tissue sections are placed in direct contact with autoradiographic film. High resolution autoradiograms can be obtained using low energy radioisotopes, such as H where an intrinsic 0.1-1 μm spatial resolution can be achieved due to limited β- path length. Several digital alternatives have been presented in recent years to replace conventional film as the imaging medium, but the spatial resolution of film remains unmatched. Although silicon-based imaging technologies have demonstrated higher sensitivity compared to conventional film, the main issue that remains is spatial resolution.
