Generation Protest of Italian Writers at the Turn of the Twentieth and Twenty-first centuries The aim of this thesis is an analysis of the generational protest in Italian prose at the turn of the millennium. The thesis examines the works Compleanno dell'iguana (1991) by Silvia Ballestra, Bla bla bla (1997) by Giuseppe Culicchia, Fango (1996) by Niccolò Ammaniti and Superwoobinda (1998) by Aldo Nove, in which the a touch on topics fundamental to modern society. The thesis initially examines the situation of Italian literature in the nineties of the twentieth century, when new literary styles, tendencies and themes appear and a young generation of writers breaks through. The next chapter focuses on identification of the common enemy of all four authors, tries to describe their attitude towards a changing society while defining the aims of their protests. The main part of the thesis is a thematic and stylistic analysis of each work; in some chapters specific stories are discussed separately. The following section offers a comparison of books and a list of common elements. The final part is devoted to a short evaluation of the generational protest and indicates today's different lifestyle.
