Campus + New university Library in Nitra

The diploma thesis deals with the design of a university library in the city of Nitra in Slovakia. The main point in creating the library is how to properly design this library given the circumstances in the area, such as the dominant feature of the national monument of the Slovak University of Agriculture designed by architect Vladimír Dědeček. The second dominant feature of the place is the views of Zobor. The diploma thesis follows up on the undergraduate project, in which the entire new campus was designed. This proposal defined the location of the new university library. The form is based on the spatial composition [cardo, decumanus] of Vladimír Dědeček, which is observed by all neighboring buildings. The mass of the library tries not to draw attention to itself, so a large part of it is located underground. Another important point in the design is road transport, which divides universities. This phenomenon is taken into account in the design and thus creates another passage under this path, which connects the universities. The library occupies a large part of the area and therefore tries to return the occupied part with the help of green walkable roofs, which creates additional space for views and vistas. In addition, the proposal also works with road transport, which runs over the roof of the library. Overall, the proposal seeks to show what university libraries might look like, where it's not just about books and study places, but also about meetings, debates and listening
