The thesis deals with the problem of creating music through movement. Our aim is to implement software that allows the user to control a virtual musical instrument using a webcam. We focus primarily on universal interface controlled by movement. Using the differential motion analysis method and optical flow we obtain the information about a movement. Based on this information the virtual instrument creates tones using MIDI technology. Specifically, we simulate a virtual keyboard on which the user can play. We designed the virtual instrument in such a way that it could be easily extended in the future with other approaches to the process of creating music
