Seniors as a specific group in the process of lifelong learning

My thesis focuses on discussing and analyzing the problems of seniors' education, mostly from the theoretical point of view. The whole theme is divided into six chapters. The first part briefly describes the historical development of education of seniors. The second chapter is concentrated on the importance of seniors' education, both from the view of society (the emphasis is placed on population growth) and from the view of seniors. An important part of this chapter is also a motivation for late life learning. The third and the fourth parts are more focused on the process of education. In the third chapter I depict old age as a developmental stage and also the specificities of the elderly in the learning process, including a description of changes in cognitive functions that occur and have a considerable impact on the learning process. The fourth chapter is focused on gerontological didactics. The fifth chapter defines the concept of lifelong learning. The sixth summarizes the basic educational opportunities for senior citizens in the Czech Republic
