This essay deals with the Christian heresy called Cathars and their persecution in the territory of former Occitania. The essay is divided into three parts. The first part describes what generally consists Cathar's faith. The second part is dedicated to the territory of Occitania, there are also outlined the reasons why the Cathars were so powerfully rampant in this area. The third part is historically described the origin and course of the crusade against the Cathars, recharge the most important castles in their territory and the politico-social intentions, which are concealed behind this expedition. Finally, there is expounded birth of Inquisition focusing on eradicating heresy
