This thesis deals with religious interpretations of psychotic illness. In the theoretical part, the psychotic disorder is first briefly defined and several stimulating psychological interpretations are outlined. An overview of the history of the relationship of psychology and religion follows. The next chapter summarizes some religious interpretations of psychosis. The focus of the work is on the research part. It is a psychological qualitative research, which shows how three Christian-oriented mentally ill women with psychotic symptoms interpret their own illness. The case studies are then compared in a separate chapter, entailing a slight generalization of the results. At the end there is a reflection on the limitations of the research
