The Magic Work and Philosophy of Ingmar Bergman

This diploma thesis analyses film philosophy of a famous Swedish director, Ingmar Bergman. It outlines Bergman's life experience influencing his work and his philosophical and stylistic construction of filmography. There are nine movies introduced illustrating the development in his thinking. In the second part of this thesis, the life and existential philosophy of Soren Kierkegaard, a Danish philosopher, are dealt with. In the conclusion, the interesting correspondences and differences are found in the work and thinking of these two authors. The basis is put on the biblical story of prophet Abraham
