Standardization of pre-hospital care as a tool to prevent patient harm

The theme of the dissertation thesis is "Standardization of pre-hospital care as a tool to prevent patient harm." The aim of the work is to identify individual areas and procedures of pre-hospital emergency care suitable for standardization, and subsequently the creation or adaptation of procedures, including their verification. The handover of patient information and the area of clinical procedures (basic examination of the patient, evaluation of the electrocardiogram (ECG) and differential diagnosis of urological problems) were selected for evaluation. The first study focuses on the effectiveness of information handover using the acronym ATMIST (Age - Time - Mechanism - Injury / Illness - Signs and Symptoms - Treatment) in a prospective observational study. The result is the finding that despite the use of a structured tool, only 80% of the information is correctly transmitted. A recommendation for practice is an electronic form of information handover that prevents the loss of information. At present, the electronic form of the pre-notification was already introduced at the Prague Emergency Medical Services.
